Chapter 3
The girls got settled in. May walked around the room. She looked at the door, “I think I just found our schedule!” May said with excitement. They gathered around the schedule, May read,
“8:00 AM— Breakfast
9:00 AM—chores
10:00 AM— Literature
11:00 AM—Posture
12:00 AM— Lunch
1:00 PM—History
5:30— Supper
6:00—Rest/Play
9:00—Sleep
“Cool! Now we know what our days will look like, and it seems pretty light!” Rebeca said tiredly. “Yeah!” Maraline agreed, “It’s 12:14, there is no school but they are still going to feed us. Let’s get to the dinning hall before we’re really late. The girls quickly walked out of the old room and down the rickety wooden stairs and around a nice, new couch in the back of the sitting room. The girls knew something was off, but this time no one said anything. They soon made it to the dinning hall. There were about thirty girls already sitting around the table, staring at them. “Girls you are late. It is not very ladylike to
keep us waiting.” Mrs. Collines said angrily, “Please
see me after lunch.”
“Mrs. Collines, we only just found our schedule,” May argued.
“No excuses, I am in charge here, not you. Now sit down so we can eat.” Mrs. Collines said.
May and her newfound friends sat down reluctantly.
For lunch they had delicious sandwiches and some salad.
After lunch May, Jasmine, Maraline, and Rebeca followed Mrs. Collines to her office. It had a velvet couch, paintings on the perfect walls and a nice, smooth, large desk along one wall. “Girls, why were you late? It was very disrespectful.” Mrs. Collines questioned, “We told you, we didn’t find the schedule until it was too late!” Rebeca said irritated, “I gave you a paper with your schedule on it.” “That was what that paper was!” May gasped, “I forgot all about it! I’m sorry, I should have looked at it!” “Yes, you should have, that was very, very irresponsible of you.” she said with a smirk, “ You will be punished for this. The lot of you will be in charge of cleaning up after meals for a week.” the girls were shocked, “It was just a silly mistake!” Maraline said, not understanding, “Say that again and I’ll make it two!” the girls walked out of the room sorrowfully. They went up stairs to their old, pealing, rickety bedroom, still wondering why Mrs. Collines disliked them so much. The girls finished getting set up in there room, and took a nap.
